what began as year-long challenge has become perpetual until further notice
I was born in Australia and I’m an eclectic pudding of genes ranging from German, Ukrainian, English, Irish, Belgian and Italian in the mix. And a recent DNA test tells me there’s Turkish and Greek in the pudding, too. The more the merrier.
In August 2012 I skipped out of a life half-lived in Australia to come to the Monte Amiata region in Southern Tuscany, and have since been in Switzerland, though I’m back for the foreseeable future, during Covid and beyond. Taking my time. Rebuilding my self. Shedding fear about necessary returns.
I write poetry and stories and I’m still in research for a half-completed multi-generational novel about my grandmother’s life in Germany during WWII and her subsequent leaving of her homeland for the far-off planet Australia.
I am, amongst these creative pursuits, a metalsmith, ESL teacher, bilingual translator (Italian). I’m currently learning German and Kurmançi, and about to embark on a post graduate degree in art therapy.
