what began as year-long challenge has become perpetual until further notice
Well, I skipped tradition this April and missed NaPoWriMo.
I’m yet to finish reading through the entries from fellow poets I follow, which may take days, or even weeks. When there’s a concentration of poetry forging a king tide into the world, such as ALWAYS but especially during the NaPoWriMo, I need to lock myself in a room without distractions and power read.
Instead of partaking in NaPoWriMo I edited two short stories and two poems to within an inch of their lives, and sent them to an annual competition held by Poetry Republic and my poem Perfume has been re-promoted on the Wild Sound Festival Review page. If I’d like, there is an offer to make a video to go along with a read performance of it. I think I might like, these look and sound pretty cool to me.
I’m here in the Renaissance City [see here for the details of my month long creative endeavour] and working on my novel on my downtime days. I’m no stranger to this town but every time I’m here it always surprises and inspires me, each visit forming a sediment over the last and, as far as cities go, I feel incredibly at home here, even amongst the cloud of Arno-borne mosquitoes, which the travel books and blogs don’t mention.
We’ll see. The idea of this month is to be more out and about physically, and outside-of-my-own-thoughts-hands-on creative. That leaves little room for composing poesia…ma…mai dire mai 😉
