12 Degrees & Skiving

what began as year-long challenge has become perpetual until further notice

• Week 47 • Tanka •

Cinderella

in bed with last night’s
makeup, her perfume and him
she is the glass pearl
that grew the oyster by dawn
by daylight the lustre gone

~

Padre

your ideas tangle
you in a white lie lasso
all placation you
hook to the semblance, the right
way to ease the guilt to come

~

Imago

the muse almost in hand
my hands, remote with winter
dry and transparent
so seethrough now i am
afraid the words will fall through

~

A tanka is an oriental poetry form, similar to that of a haiku, with a traditional 5 – 7 – 5 -7 -7 scheme.
For a thorough explanation of a Tanka and its philosophy (and indeed most poetic forms), visit the Poet’s Garret  – it is a fabulous resource…not only because I am running out of time and fussing about with explanations at this point is not what I want to be doing.
If and when I complete this challenge on time, I fully intend to revisit 12C and Skiving throughout 2013 in order to edit explanations and the poems themselves.
