12 Degrees & Skiving

what began as year-long challenge has become perpetual until further notice

today
one year ago
i could not have penciled
nor penned outlines of being here
aflame in this kitchen, this hemisphere
set alight by waking
ignited before i
was born, perhaps
today

~

breathing
in between me
and a restless city
i left behind for time to find
lies my mirror, distilled, now, that passion
exhales a lake’s summer surface
so that now i can see
and like what i
do see
breathing

Rictameter verse is a 9 – line poem that begins with a double-syllable word in the first line. It creeps up in increments of two syllables each line, ie. 2, 4, 6, 8, until it reaches 10 syllables in the 5th line, after which it comes down again in increments of 2 syllables until it arrives again at the same double syllable word that began the poem.
