12 Degrees & Skiving

what began as year-long challenge has become perpetual until further notice

• Week 15 • Blason Poetry •

A Blason poem “emblazons” a subject – either highlighting it in order to praise or blame it.
From the examples I’ve seen, the rhyme scheme is a, b, a, b, c, d, c, d, e, f, e, f, g, g with 10 syllables per line.

The Pretender

Fed, he halts, always, on every door’s brink,
gathers himself on the limen of place;
the fabric of dusk shows blue through the chink
in his poise and in the shape of his face.

Soft-toed, triangle-headed pretender
the question posed in his tail will answer
itself: “who’s the treacherous befriender
of the moon? Me. I am the night’s sworn dancer.”

Though shedding wild as cat-door strokes lumbar
A universe still hunkers in between
his yawned tales of coiled garden slumber
and what his malachite eyes say they’ve seen.

Yet a liar has never been more apt
to glance sidelong and know my heart is wrapped.

Tell me wotcha reckon
