Ire

Lilith has cried aloud,
adjured her own creator
in voice outraged and proud.

Through chastened willows bowed
she soars from her dictator.
Lilith has cried aloud.

Her choice has her avowed
a veritable traitor.
Lilith has cried aloud.

Hailed by Red Sea crowd,
the worshipped vindicator,
Lilith, has cried aloud;

And Yahweh’s flawless cloud
ruptures for ire greater,
in voice outraged and proud.

There, he finds her unbowed
as new-moon night translator –
Lilith has cried aloud,
in voice outraged and proud.

I’ve always been fascinated by  Lilith’s story – not the Lilith tainted by later renditions of the bible, but the character from Hebrew mythology – of how she refused to be docile and why she left her oppressive surrounds, and where she went. In sculpture she is depicted as a Hecate-cum-Demeter-type figure: single, able, shrewd and strong.
